The Caduceus is the more complicated cousin of the single-serpent Rod of Asclepius, though the two are frequently conflated in medical settings. The Caduceus historically symbolizes a messenger's tool, a means of crossing thresholds and brokering peace.
By representing the symbolic staff as the axis on which the world turns, its two snakes embracing the whole globe, this image suggests the obligation of healthcare professionals to advocate for justice and peace.
